Computer Programming Skills Prove To Be Great Asset

Computer Programming Skills Prove To Be Great Asset Computer programming skills prove to be great asset In a world that is rapidly going digital, many employers are looking for people who understand the digital world and computer programming skills as well as their field of study. These people who can combine computer programming skills with the knowledge of their field will be more attractive to employers, according to The New York Times. Many young students are reluctant to pursue these careers because the skills are difficult to quickly learn, and schools do not teach the material at a deeper level. Many high school programs only give students a surface level, computer programming education. This education is traditionally limited to teaching students how to use basic computer programs like word processing, spreadsheet programs, Janice C. Cuny, a program director at the National Science Foundation told The New York Times. Were not showing and teaching kids the magic of computing, Ms. Cuny said. She noted that the Advance Placement course teaches students how to program. The New York Times also highlighted that a lot of students are learning obsolete software, which is another problem. Cunys agency is planning to increase the number of trained high school computer programming teachers to 10,000 in 2015. Her agency is attempting to glean interest from parents and school administrators, expanding their computer science programs. Essentially, employers are seeking competent computer programmers who can apply this skill to their respective fields. These people are in high demand because high schools are currently educating very few people in these fields. High schools are not creating a strong interest, and students are no pursuing these fields of study beyond high school. This creates a stronger demand for people with computer programming skills and knowledge because there are not many in the current labor force. Labor experts are predicting that most new jobs will be in the technology field. Therefore, strong computer programming skills will prove to be valuable, Robert Reich, a professor at the University of California, Berkeley and former labor secretary in the Clinton administration told The New York Times. Most of them will not be pure technology jobs, designing computer software and hardware products, but they will involve applying computing and technology-influenced skills to every industry, Reich told The New York Times. Think Geek Squads in other fields. Also, the Obama administration has increased federal funding and support for the science and technology education to increase interest in these fields because there is a strong demand for these types of jobs. This also grants more opportunities for interested students to get involved in these programs, according to The New York Times. The technology sector of the job force currently has a very strong demand. Furthermore, jobs in other fields are beginning to require some computer skills. These skills could be as specific as being able to program and write code or designing websites. Also, the skills could be as simple as understanding how to use a specific program or a basic understanding of the digital world. Students need to be knowledgeable in these fields because digital/basic computer knowledge will serve well in nearly every field. It is currently one of the fastest growing markets and prospective employees who have knowledge in these fields will be more valuable than those who do not. Students can become self taught on these matters, and most jobs will not require a student to be certified in some digital/technological aspect. Students can use new programs and familiarize themselves with new digital advances and breakthroughs. However, for the most part, simply being familiar with programs and digital trends can prove to be valuable.

Do PSAT Scores Matter

Do PSAT Scores Matter High school students often spend a significant amount of time preparing for the SAT, an exam that plays an important role in college admissions. Often, a part of students prep includes taking the PSATa shorter version of the SAT, typically taken by high school sophomores and juniors. Administered by the College Board in October, the PSAT gives students a taste of the college entrance exam experience, without the high stakes of scores affecting college admissions. While a students PSAT score cant help or hurt college opportunities like an SAT score can, a good performance on the PSAT is important in other ways. PSAT scores help students identify their projected SAT performance, qualify for scholarship opportunities, and gain confidence sitting for standardized tests. Keep reading to learn why PSAT scores matter. PSAT scores provide insight into how you might perform on the SAT The PSAT is one of the first opportunities most high school students have to take a standardized college entrance exam. Like the SAT and ACT, the PSAT is timed and overseen by proctors. A students score on the PSAT is also an early projection of SAT performance. This score can help students gauge how much additional studying might be needed to achieve their goal score on the SAT, as well as help students determine which subject areas will require additional focus in order to reach this goal. [RELATED: What is an Average PSAT Score?] PSAT scores allow you the potential to earn a National Merit Scholarship High school juniors are automatically entered as potential recipients of a National Merit Scholarship when taking the PSAT. This scholarship is awarded to students who have scored the highest on the PSAT in their state. More than 1.5 million students are eligible each year, and top scorers move on to a semifinalist round. Semifinalists must also fulfill several requirements like: Completing the National Merit Scholarship Application Submitting an SAT score. On average, 15,000 of the highest achieving students move on to the finalist round of the competition, and 7,500 of these finalists receive the National Merit Scholarship award. [RELATED: How to Manage Your Time on the PSAT] The PSAT can build your confidence to tackle standardized testing Sometimes, taking the SAT without any previous experience can be intimidating. Sitting for the PSAT prior to SAT test day can help alleviate test-taking anxiety and introduce students to what test day will be like. Additionally, prepping for the PSAT can help students establish good study habits that can be utilized throughout their college entrance exams. Aside from individual prep, students may choose to work with a PSAT tutor to gain a better grasp of test content. Utilizing a variety of prep strategies can help test-takers identify the most successful prep methods to tackle PSAT test day. [RELATED: 10 Study Habits to Avoid] The PSAT may feel to some students like an insignificant event in their early high school years. Alternatively, the PSAT provides many opportunities for students to examine their current performance levels and create a plan for success come SAT test day. Any topics you want to know more about? As an expression of freedom of speech, they’re not going anywhere, either.Caricature drawings are a type of portrait where the likeness of the subject undergoes huge amounts of exaggeration for comic effect. So what are the secrets of a good caricature? How can you draw and exaggerate a portrait? You’ll find the answers in this article. These lines will help you to better understand the orientation of the head and line up the features. The horizontal line represents the height of the eyes and the vertical line will be where the nose and the centre of the mouth are. This w ill help you to draw any face. Practising by drawing realistic portraits of your friends and family is a good place to start and afterwards, you can start with caricatures.Find out more about drawing manga. The key to caricature is obser vation. You can’t rush it and you shouldn’t be in a rush anyway. You need to take the time to observe the person. The most effective way is to see which features jump out at you immediately. You could draw your caricature with piercing blue eyes. If they have long hair, you can make their hair even longer than it really is. They may have a prominent nose, a big forehead, a beauty spot, pursed lips, etc.Remember that satire doesn’t always mean vulgar or hurtful. If you know the person well, you’ll probably understand better which features you can exaggerate. You can also draw someone as angry or in love. It’s the whole picture and situation that’s designed to make people laugh or smile. This is the model that those working in the press follow. You can also add text. You’re not writing a novel but something short and snappy, maybe something they often say or a title that sums up the situation and you could even exaggerate clothing or a treasured object. For example, why not draw someone with a snorkel and mask if they’re a fan of diving? You could also exaggerate their earrings or other fashion accessories. Caricatures act as a whole, after all.Learn how to make your own comics.Finding Your Style when Drawing CaricaturesEach caricature artist draws differently. Each artist has their own style which is how you can recognise their work. They may be influenced by manga, realism, portraiture, or regularly do caricatures of the whole person and not just their face.Find good drawing classes here.Use other pieces to inspire your own! (Source: benbenjoe)To find your style, you need to practise. Practise regularly and critique your own work. Do an appraisal of each piece you finish and make a note of what you like about it and what you don’t. Bit by bit, your drawings will improve especially if you take the time to look at caricatures in popular culture. You can learn a lot from the history of caricature art from caricaturists and satirical press. From Leonar do da Vinci to Wolinsky, there’s a wealth of caricatures and styles. Just like your own work, make a note of what you like and don’t about each style. We’re not saying you should copy the ones you like, but rather use them as inspiration for your own style.Media for Drawing CaricaturesWhat techniques should you use when drawing a caricature? This is a question that most caricaturists have probably asked themselves. When it comes to drawing, there’s plenty of different media. You could use charcoal, coloured pencils, markers, watercolours, gouache, graphite pencils, etc.A lot of caricaturists prefer charcoal or pencil as you can simply use a rubber if you make a mistake. Sometimes, these are the only medium they use. Caricatures aren’t always in colour, after all, and once you’ve finished a drawing in charcoal, you can just add a bit of lacquer to it.If you want to colour your cartoon caricature, you can go over your charcoal or pencil sketch with paint, for example. Once y ou feel comfortable, you might start painting your caricatures directly in colour. How Can You Teach Yourself to Draw Caricatures?Getting a caricature right requires a lot of practice. So how do you do it? Who should you use as a model?Don’t panic if your little brother or husband doesn’t want to sit in front of you for hours while you draw and ridicule them. You could always practise without a subject.Ensure you practise as often as you can. (Source: pixel2013)You can go through photos of your friends, family, or even complete strangers online and practise to your heart’s content. This is particularly useful when you’re first starting out as you’ll be under no pressure and there’ll be nobody watching you work.If you want to practise working more quickly, you might want to head into the street and do quick caricatures of passersby. Drawing on the street is good practice for quickly noticing somebody’s expression or posture. You won’t need to do a caricature of them the re and then. Just doing a realistic sketch is good practice. You could even be hired to do corporate events. Finally, you could do your own satirical paper. You could get inspiration from doing caricatures of famous and important people. Political satire is a great way to get better. Go for it!If you need more help with how to draw caricatures, consider getting help from a private tutor on Superprof who specialising in the art form! There are three main types of tutorials available: face-to-face tutorials, online tutorials, and group tutorials, and each comes with its pros and cons in terms of learning and cost-effectiveness.Face-to-face tutorials are taught with one student and one tutor and they tend to be the most cost-effective type since every minute in the lesson is spent focusing on you as the student.Online tutorials are similar to the face-to-face tutorials but take place either on a call or via webcam. Since the tutor won't have the travel costs to worry about and can fit mo re students into their schedule as a result, online tutorials are usually cheaper than face-to-face tutorials. Finally, group tutorials are classes with one teacher or tutor and multiple students and these tend to be the cheapest per student per hour.

Getting the Most Out of Your Internship - Introvert Whisperer

Introvert Whisperer / Getting the Most Out of Your Internship - Introvert Whisperer Getting the Most Out of Your Internship You’ve worked hard on your MBA with your eye on the goal of a great position for a hot company.   You know that an internship would be a good step to take on your path to all this greatness; and now that you’re there, you need to make the most out of this experience. Here are some things to do and things to remember while you are on this career appetizer: Deliver like your life depends on it.  You have a short amount of time to prove yourself and impress the people you work with.   This is a potential opportunity to be offered a job; and even if you aren’t, the impression you make will linger on. Confirm your direction. You may have known a long time that this work is leading you to the career of your dreams. Even if you haven’t, this is the chance to confirm that this will be the right fit for you once you launch your career.   Soak up this experience so you know its right, because it will be harder to pull the plug and head in another direction once you have a more permanent job. This will be one of the richest networking opportunities you will have this side of being in school. You will come in contact with new co-workers in and around the department, vendors, customers and those in charge.   Get to know these people, understand what they do and who they are.   Connect with them and stay connected. Learn how things work. If you don’t have much work experience, you may not know how to come up to speed and start contributing quickly. The best place to start is to learn how things work.   If you hook into a specific business process and follow it back to its origin then forward to the end result, you will learn people, process, and problems along the way.   For you to perform well, you need to not only produce the work, but you need to know who’s who.   We’ll save the problems for the next bullet. Solve problems.   You will be considered an exceptional performer if you not only perform the work, but also look for and solve problems. In fact, you could become indispensable. Document what you do. Some organizations do status reports. Don’t roll your eyes; they can be good for you in the long run.   Even if the group you go into doesn’t do status reports, do one anyway.   Documenting your accomplishments and plans are a good way to communicate your value and contributions within the organization.   Sometimes, it can be challenging for the higher ups to get visibility to an intern, but this can help.  Outside, if you’re doing a job search, your status reports can serve as a work sample to help paint the picture of your rich intern experience. Have them document you. More than likely you will receive some type of performance assessment prior to leaving. If not, ask for a written appraisal.   This can act as a form for job reference.   You should ask some of the people you work with for a letter of reference or if you can use them as a reference in your upcoming job search.   It’s far better to get their agreement to do a reference for you while you are there face to face, than after the fact. An internship is a great way to achieve a number of your career goals.   You could end up with a job offer which might be a dream come true.   You will certainly gain great experience to help you become a more competitive job seeker when the time comes.   Aside from those two obvious items, you will gain references, a network and deepen your insight on how to learn a job quickly.   You can deepen your experience with just a few well thought out actions. English Conversation Classes Talking about the Rise of China

English Conversation Classes Talking about the Rise of China The future of China, and its role in world economics and politics is increasingly a topic of conversation, not just in my English conversation classes, but everywhere you go. In this TED Talk, Martin Jacques talks about why westerners misunderstand China, and tries to give us ideas to help us understand it better. He says many things about China and its future that could be considered controversial, including that: The arrival of countries like China represents the most important single act of democratization in the last 200 years. Why should you listen to Martin Jacques?Martin Jacques is the author of When China Rules the World: The Rise of the Middle Kingdom and the End of the Western World. He is a visiting senior fellow at the London School of Economics, IDEAS, a centre for the study of international affairs, diplomacy and grand strategy, and a visiting research fellow at the LSE’s Asia Research Centre. He is a columnist for the Guardian and the New Statesman. His interest in East Asia began in 1993 with a holiday in China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia. After that, he found every reason or excuse he could find to spend time in the region, be it personal, for newspaper articles or television programs. In 1977, he became editor of Marxism Today, a post he held for fourteen years, transforming what was an obscure and dull journal into the most influential political publication in Britain, read and respected on the right and left alike. In 1991, he closed Marxism Today and in 1994 became the deputy editor of the Independent newspaper, a post he held until 1996. In 1993 he co-founded the think-tank Demos.Watch the video below, to hear Jacques.
